An Upstate middle school teacher is facing a charge of third-degree assault and battery, according to district officials.
When the district learned about the charge, Means was placed on administrative leave, Brotherton said.
The arrest warrant says that over the past few months, Means “inappropriately touched” a 14-year-old student. The warrant says the touching included Means “rubbing (the student’s) back, manipulating her bra strap and touching and rubbing her thigh.”
The warrant says the offenses happened at the school.
The school’s website shows Means listed as an eighth-grade science teacher.
“The district is concerned by these allegations and will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation,” Brotherton said.
Johnathan Bragg, with the Greenville Police Department initially said Means was not in custody, but Bragg confirmed at 5:20 p.m. that Means had been arrested.
