SHELTON, Conn. (WTNH) – A former teacher and member of the Shelton Youth Bureau has been charged with sexual assault.
Police arrested 76-year-old David Munson of Shelton on Tuesday.
Officials say in Oct., 2017, a man reported to police that he was sexually assaulted while attending Shelton Intermediate School years earlier.
According to police, between 2005 and 2007 while the then-juvenile was enrolled at the school, Munson was assigned to mentor the student.
The victim stated that he was sexually assaulted by Munson on school grounds while being mentored.
Munson was arrested and charged with sexual assault in the first degree and risk of injury to a minor.
He posted a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
Munson retired in 1999 from the Shelton Youth Bureau after teaching for 34 years.
The Shelton School District released a statement on the alleged crime, which reads:
“The Shelton Public School System acknowledges that David Munson was a former teacher who retired from the system after 34 years of service and will not be commenting further until the completion of the investigation of charges.
The Board of Education complies with all applicable federal, state and local laws prohibiting the exclusion of any person from any of its educational programs or activities because of race, color, religious creed, gender, age, national origin, ancestry, marital status, orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, past or present history of mental disorder, physical disability, genetic information, or any other basis prohibited by Connecticut state and/or general nondiscrimination laws.”
