It now appears that a 14 year old boy who suffered a gunshot wound while waiting for a school bus in rural eastern Medina County may have accidentally shot himself, investigators tell News Radio 1200 WOAI.
The boy suffered a single gunshot wound while walking to the bus stop in the Valley West subdivision, which is off Potranco Road just east of Castroville.
The boy originally told investigators that he was shot by a man who made his getaway on an ATV, and deputies mounted an intensive search this morning, even locking down a school.
But officials say they found the gun near where the incident happened, and believe the boy shot himself, and then made up the story.
He is in serious condition at University Hospital.
