The appointments come as council members grapple with how board members should be selected. The school board, which has been all appointed since 1931, is only one of two in the state selected that way.
And some community members think it’s time that changed.

Option include a fully elected school board and a hybrid board comprised of elected and appointed members.
But, the council can’t change the selection process. Council members would have to ask state lawmakers to write legislation to take to the General Assembly.
