Video Transcript

On Saturday, April 18, shortly after 4:00 AM, Fresno police officers responded to a residence in the 4,600 block of East Belgravia for a report of an eight-year-old child that was unresponsive and not breathing. On arrival, officers located the child in a bedroom, unconscious, and again, not breathing. Emergent– emergency medical services and officers attempted to revive the child, but sadly, the child was declared deceased at the scene.

Due to there being no known medical conditions for the child, homicide detectives were called to the scene and they began an investigation. Detectives learned the victim who lived at the residence with his two biological siblings, a 10-year-old brother and a 13-year-old sister. A forensic exam by the county coroner determined the eight-year-old victim’s death was a homicide caused by blunt force trauma.

Homicide detectives through their investigation determined the child’s guardian, 49-year-old, Patrick Johnson, was responsible for the murder, and his wife, 47-year-old, Crystal Johnson, was also criminally responsible. Yesterday, members of our Street Violence Bureau Tactical Team located and arrested Patrick Johnson and Crystal Johnson without incident. Patrick was booked for murder and Crystal Johnson was booked for felony child abuse. Again, this is murder number 26 in the city of Fresno.
