Like kids in cities and towns around the globe, students in Paw Paw, Michigan — a small town in the southwest part of the state — have been through so much these past few years. They have withstood a relentless pandemic that continues to disrupt classrooms, sicken friends and loved ones, and has left some district families jobless and homeless. Staff at the school are seeing more anxiety, talk of hopelessness and thoughts of self-harm, even at the elementary level.
