The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:
One issue I see is that students have had their educational and social needs curtailed by often arbitrary and confusing health and safety rules. These arbitrary rules have led to learning loss and skill gaps. I vow to keep schools open so that the needs of our students can be addressed. My hope is that with Naugatuck’s curriculum, uninterrupted teaching time with personalized interventions to identify at risk students, and we can give effective interventions to help curtail learning loss. We can help Naugatuck students become responsible and engaged citizens.
Critical differences between me and my opponents:
My experience as a parent of Naugatuck school children in several different schools gives me a unique perspective. I decided to seek a nomination due to being summarily ignored as a parent by the current Board of Education. My hope is that I can help Naugatuck’s parents’ voices be heard by the board. If elected and I will actively listen and work with parents and other Board members to create policies that help to achieve their children’s education goals.
I sit on the Board of Directors for Naugatuck Pop Warner as their cheer equipment coordinator. I also volunteer as an assistant coach for my youngest daughters cheer team along with my older daughter who just graduated Naugatuck High school. Our team had the honor to represent Naugatuck at the National Pop Warner cheer and dance competition in 2019. We won 4th place at Nationals for our hometown. I love being a mentor to these young athletes. I also volunteer my time as a praise team singer at my church Promise Land church of God in West Haven. We are a multicultural ministry and I’ve been a member for over 20 years. I also was a counter manager to a large cosmetic counter for 10 years. I have a very good history of working with different personalities and achieving results.
Each Connecticut Board of Education makes the decisions about education and what that looks like for their individual district. Local taxpayers and voters and parents should help the Board of Education make those decisions. I stand for parent’s voices and parent’s choices for their children’s education. I believe in an open line of communication with constituents and stakeholders. I believe in our community helping students achieve Naugatuck’s vision of the graduate.
What else would you like voters to know about you?
I am an advocate for high quality free public education for all Naugatuck students. I will strive to meet the individual education needs of all students. I look forward to working with the board to maintain our well run schools and vote for effective policies to meet our district’s strategic plan. I am committed to serving the Board of education with dignity and honesty and hard work. I respectfully ask for your vote.
