A 52-year-old Alief man was sentenced Friday to life in prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting a child during a two-year span, officials said.

Jose Isidro Flores Murillo was sentenced in one of the first felony trials in which a jury was selected at NRG Arena due to the pandemic, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. The trial was held at a downtown courthouse.

“Our criminal justice system depends on jurors showing up, so especially during this pandemic, we thank the citizens who engaged in our democracy,” Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said in a statement.  “We stand with the victims, and we are committed to putting sexual predators, like this man, behind bars for the rest of their lives.”

Murillo lived in Alief with his wife and sons. He was convicted of repeatedly assaulting a girl between 2009 and 2011 beginning when she was 6 years old. The girl was not related to the perpetrator, but she stayed overnight with Murillo and his wife on occasion when her mother was at work, the district attorney’s office said.

Murillo received the maximum sentence of life in prison without parole.
