Alleged cyber bully remanded in custody

Robert Campbell, the 42-year-old Ottawa man accused of waging a decade-long international cyberbullying campaign, was remanded in custody Thursday pending his application for legal aid.

Campell appeared briefly by video from the maximum-security wing of the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre, where he has been held since his arrest a week ago.

He is to reappear, again by video, next week.

Campbell is charged with 181 offences involving 38 alleged victims.

The charges include 27 counts of criminal harassment, 69 counts of identity fraud and 85 counts of defamatory libel related to victims in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, 18 of whom are from Ottawa.

Police allege that Campbell committed the crimes using Internet anonymity software.
