Arrest warrant details fight that led up to stabbing that killed 17-year-old Fairfield Prep student | #students | #parents

A stabbing Saturday night that left a 17-year-old Fairfield Prep student dead and three others wounded, stemmed from a fight that broke out at a house party, according to an arrest warrant.

The arrest warrant obtained by News 12 states that a fight broke out between two groups at a home on Lazy Brook Road in Shelton.

One of the groups allegedly involved left the home and went to a house party on Laurel Glen Drive.

The warrant states witnesses described 16-year-old Raul Valle holding a knife similar to a “switch blade” when “one of the two kids threw a punch at their group and a large fight broke out” on the front yard. That fight apparently involved 25 kids.

Three of the students were stabbed and one of the victims had deep wounds to the leg.

One witness said when the fight was wrapping up, Valle “was walking to the car” when he “turns around and takes a knife and stabs [Jimmy McGrath] right in the stomach.”

An autopsy reveals McGrath took a direct stab to the heart.

“This is an unspeakable tragedy for everyone involved and it would be irresponsible for me to make any comment before having a chance to examine all the evidence in this case. I appreciate your interest and concern but again I need to see the entire case file,” said Jake Donovan, an attorney for Valle.

Covering his face after his son’s first court appearance in Derby Thursday, Valle’s father said he was “sorry for the family.”

Valle appeared in court Thursday but he will be transferred to Milford County Court, where he will be tried as an adult. Valle is being held on $2 million bond.
