Legal Options of Victims Sexually Abused by a Teacher
Attorney contributor Dan Lipman, an experienced sexual abuse lawyer, licensed in Colorado, represents victims sexually abused by teachers in civil lawsuits. Below, Dan provides commentary on the legal options of these victims.
“School administrations are required by law to uphold the safety of students enrolled. To uphold the safety of the students, schools should implement security measures such as cameras, guards, and reporting systems. Unfortunately, cases of teaching sexual assault have surfaced all around the country. Schools and administrations should do everything in their power to prevent the hiring of predators and upholding student’s safety.”
“When a victim is sexually abused by a teacher, both the victim and their parents should question whether the school did everything possible to prevent the abuse from occurring. Often, teacher sexual abuse occurs as a result of third-party negligence. An example of negligence is if misconduct was reported previously and ignored, but there are plenty of other negligence cases. Victims sexually abused by a teacher should know they may have grounds for a civil lawsuit against the school due to negligence.”
