CHANDIGARH: More than a month after being buried, the infant daughter of a woman accused of killing her toddler son has come out of her grave to solve the mystery of her own death.
At the Sector-25 cremation ground on Wednesday, the Sector-34 police exhumed the body of the six-month-old girl in the presence of the subdivisional magistrate (SDM) and a few doctors. The baby girl died on December 21 and her parents buried her the same day. Her father, Dashrath of Burail village in Sector 45, has accused her mother of killing this second child, too.
His wife, Rupa, is under arrest since January 26 on the charges of murdering her son (aged just 2-and-a-half) and putting him in a box bed with a glove stuffed in his mouth. In his complaint, Dashrath has stated that on the afternoon of December 21, 2019, Rupa rang him up at his workplace to tell him his daughter was not responding. He got home to find the infant unconscious and moved her to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, where doctors declared her brought dead. Dashrath now wants police to investigate her death as well.
Police public relations officer DSP Charanjit Singh Virk has confirmed that the semi-decomposed body of the infant girl was exhumed for autopsy. Five days before the son’s death, railway police had found Rupa roaming with him at the city station. She had left home after a fight with husband. Rupa was counselled by women’s helpline team and persuaded to go back home.
