The video every parent must see: Heart-stopping moment a young boy finds a way to open a pool-fence gate by himself and lets his baby sister inside

  • A Perth mum filmed her three-year-old son climb on toy car and open pool gate
  • Isaiah let his little sister into the pool area before shutting the gate behind them
  • Mum Krystal Hill shared the scary footage on Facebook to warn other parents

A mother has released a warning to fellow parents after her three-year-old son opened a pool gate by himself and let his little sister inside.

Krystal Hill, from Perth, filmed Isaiah climb onto the roof of a red and yellow toy car parked by the pool gate in the family’s backyard.

The savvy three-year-old successfully stretched himself to the top of the fence, where he was able to unlock the mechanism.

Isaiah’s toddler sister entered the pool area and he followed, before shutting the gate behind the pair.

‘So you think pool fences are safe!’ Ms Hill wrote on Facebook with the heart-stopping footage.

‘I watched my three-year-old who can’t swim independently yet, climb up and open the pool gate and then let himself and his little sister into the pool area.

‘I am in a bit of shock at the moment!’

Ms Hill said she ‘sat back and watched it happen’ to see if her son could successfully open the gate.

‘I have filmed it to show parents that sometimes just a pool gate isn’t enough,’ she said.

‘We will now be padlocking the gate but this is still no guarantee.’

She said a number of fellow parents have sent her messages to thank her for sharing the video and raising awareness.

Speaking to Sunrise on Friday, Ms Hill said it took her a days to get over what she experienced.

‘It was a bit surreal. I kept thinking about what would have happened if I wasn’t there,’ she said.

‘I could have walked out to something horrific so it was quite frightening.’

Another mother shared an eerily similar video of her toddler climbing over the swimming pool gate in late 2018.

The Perth mum posted the video showing her three-year-old son using the ladder from their trampoline to help scale the fence and get inside the family’s swimming pool.

The tot lifts the ladder from the trampoline above his head as a small girl watches on. He leans the small ladder against the metal fence and begins to climb.

‘Step one, step two, step three,’ he can be heard saying, before lifting a leg over to the other side of the fence.

The video, posted to the Facebook group ‘Perth Having a whinge’ shocked other parents.

‘Never underestimate what a kid can do. They are at least five steps ahead of you…vigilance,’ another person commented.

‘OMG kids are so clever. My 2 youngest kiddies tried to use a chair, they both got a smack on the bum and wasn’t allowed outside. They both soon learned.’
