SAN FRANCISCO — A San Francisco resident is facing federal charges after two BART officers arrested him several weeks ago on suspicion of possessing a loaded gun on a Daly City-bound train, court records show.

Jermaine Titus Fulgham was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to federal court records unsealed last week. The offense carries a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Fulgham was arrested at about 7 p.m. Dec. 16 by two BART officers who were patrolling the train for “high visibility and police presence,” according to the criminal complaint. A few minutes after the train left the West Oakland station, the officers saw what they believed was a bag of cocaine in Fulgham’s hand, authorities said.

The officers arrested Fulgham on suspicion of drug possession and found a 9mm pistol loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition, the complaint says. The officers also reportedly found 12 grams of crack cocaine, an eighth-ounce of cocaine, and less than one-tenth of one gram of methamphetamine.
