Sergio Garcia, 26, was arrested and charged with rape, sexual misconduct, acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17 years old and sexual abuse on Wednesday night, the NYPD said Thursday.

Police told NBC New York Garcia has been charged with raping his stepdaughter several years ago, when she was 14 years old.

Garcia is a New York City Department of Education employee, the NYPD said. NBC New York reported that he teaches at a school in Brooklyn, but did not say which school.

A Department of Education spokesperson told 1010 WINS Garcia was hired as a substitute teacher in September of last year.

“These are extremely disturbing allegations of conduct from several years prior to this substitute’s employment, and we took immediate action as soon as they were reported,” the spokesperson said. “He is not eligible to work in our schools pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.”
