Sergio Garcia, 26, was arrested in Brooklyn and charged with two counts of rape, sexual misconduct, acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17 years old and sexual abuse.
According to a report from AMNY, Garcia works as a substitute teacher at J.H.S. 227, a middle school in Bensonhurst.
The report claims Garcia was 22 when he allegedly drugged and raped a then-14-year-old girl, who is described as his ex-girlfriend, in August 2017.
Police sources confirmed to AMNY that the victim said Garcia provided her with a gummy candy, which caused her to feel lightheaded, prior to the alleged rape.
The outlet reports the Brooklyn teacher and the victim allegedly had an illegal sexual relationship between August and December 2017.
The now 18-year-old victim filed a police report regarding the relationship and the alleged rape last month, according to AMNY.
A Department of Education spokesperson released the following statement to the outlet regarding the incident: “These are extremely disturbing allegations of conduct from several years prior to this substitute’s employment, and we took immediate action as soon as they were reported. He is not eligible to work in our schools pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.”
