For me personally, I would say building my life with Tammy and raising our two great kids, Corbin and Sutton, ranks very high for me. Professionally, for nearly 30 years I have served as a pastor and have worked with many children and teens to achieve a strong and balanced approach to life, learning, faith and mental health. I am currently in my 14th year as lead pastor at Flushing Community Church of the Nazarene. I have always engaged with Flushing Schools as a crisis support counselor, a classroom volunteer, a coach at the middle school and assistant varsity levels, a member of various school committees, a game day staffer, and more. I am also currently working on my master of organizational leadership degree.

WHY ARE YOU RUNNING FOR OFFICE?

I see Flushing Schools as a unique community – small enough to be known and often large enough get overlooked. I believe strongly every student must be given the right tools to succeed and live their life to the fullest. I desire to continue having a voice that will encourage safe and healthy environments for academic learning and social growth. As a father of two Flushing graduates, I want to see our students well prepared for success in college or in their trade experience. As a husband of a teacher, I have a burden to see our teachers given the necessary tools to succeed and achieve their goals of impacting young lives. As a school board member, I believe I can establish an open and healthy dialogue for our community and discover ways we can encourage a partnership between the home and school. For me it’s simple: stronger schools will build a stronger community. The opposite is also true: a stronger community will create stronger schools. This is best accomplished as we work together, listen to each other, and serve each other.

WHY ARE YOU RUNNING FOR OFFICE?

My main priority is our children, their safety and well-being, which for me, includes being an advocate for them and being a bond between the schools and our community. I have been a resident of this district for 14 years and have two kids that attend school in the district. They both went to Springview Elementary, now one is in middle school and one is in high school. I enjoy being involved in their lives and making an impact by supporting the families of this great district.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Graduated Flushing High School 02. I am honored to be a father. I have a son and a daughter. Both attend Flushing schools. Serving as a firefighter with the City of Flushing gives me a great sense of pride for our community.

WHY ARE YOU RUNNING FOR OFFICE?

What inspired me to run for Flushing school board is seeing a need for policy change to help teachers. By listening to their concerns and actively addressing those concerns to help them do their job well. Also, I want to create a motivating culture for our students to become successful in every aspect of their lives.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS/ WHY ARE YOU RUNNING FOR OFFICE?

I am running for school board in Flushing for a multitude of reasons. I am a veteran and retired nurse with three grown daughters, two of which attended Flushing Schools. I think we can all agree that we live in trying times right now, but I feel we are now at a crossroad. We can either take the easy path, or we can stand up and fight for the children, and the future. Our children’s education and mental well-being have been neglected over the past two years, and I believe there are things that need to change such as, CRT (Critical Race Theory), inappropriate books in libraries, teachers with scan tags and so much more. I would like a chance to stand for our children, to put them first, before other societal agendas. I want to empower parents to stand up for their children and let them know their voice can be heard. I want to help fix broken oaths and policies. I want to hold people who broke those rules accountable. I want to help give back our children’s right to grow, live and thrive without mask mandates and lockdowns. It’s time to put our children, and the future, first.
