A TWENTY-nine-year-old Carlisle man has been put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for offences of distributing indecent images of children.
Michael David South, of Warwick Road, admitted two offences – both committed in July, 2017 but they were not discovered by police until last year, the city’s crown court heard.
His mobile phone was first examined by police in 2019 and nothing incriminating was found. Police then had cause to re-examine the device in August last year – and found South had shared two child abuse videos.
Both featured teenage boys, and one involved Category A images – the most serious in terms of its criminality. The court heard the defendant, who has no previous convictions, is not know to have committed any further offences since sharing those videos four years ago.
Recorder Jeremy Lasker imposed 20 month jail but suspended the term for two years.
He ruled that South must take an accredited sex offender treatment programme and do 140 hours unpaid work. South will have to remain on the Sex Offender Register for five years and he was also made subject to a sexual harm prevention order, which prevents him having any unsupervised access to a child
