Castile man sentenced on child porn charges

WARSAW — A Castile man will be on “intensive sex offender probation” after he was sentenced last week in Wyoming County Court for collecting and sharing child pornography.

Edward C. Smallwood, 70, was sentenced to three months in Wyoming County Jail and 10 years of probation by Judge Michael Griffith.

Griffith also ordered Smallwood to pay a $1,000 sex offender fine, $325 in surcharges, a $50 DNA fee and a $50 Sex Offender Registration Act fee.

He determined Smallwood to be a Level 1 offender, the lowest, with the New York State Sex Offender Registry.

Smallwood was arrested in April after an long investigation by New York State Police. A warrant, executed in July 2014 at his residence, found computers and software that revealed Smallwood was collecting child pornography and transfering videos online.

He was charged with possessing a sexual performance by a child and possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child.

Smallwood is the son of the late Charlotte Smallwood-Cook, who in the 1940s served as Wyoming district attorney and was the first female district attorney in New York state. She died in 2013.
