A former English teacher at Charles B. Aycock High School has been arrested and charged with three felony counts of indecent liberties with a student.

According to a report, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department investigated allegations made by a CBA student, who said she had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a teacher between Feb. 24 and Apr. 18 of 2015.

She identified the teacher as Keith Woodard III of La Grange.

Authorities notified officials at the Wayne County Public Schools central office, who assisted with the year-long investigation. Woodard was suspended with pay on Oct. 17, 2019 and resigned from WCPS on Apr. 9, 2020.

At the time of his apprehension, Woodard was not a WCPS employee.

“The district continuously cooperated with law enforcement throughout its investigation,” WCPS officials said in a released statement. “It was also able to bring key information to light as part of its own internal investigation, which added law enforcement investigators in bringing these charges.”

Det. Sgt. Scott Peele handled the case.

Lt. Jonathan Griffin and Cpl. Michael Biggins provided assistance.

Woodard was placed under a $6,000 secured bond.
