CCPD officer shot multiple times after incident at southside apartment | #schoolshooting

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — UPDATE: Corpus Christi police report that the suspect, 20-year-old Joshua Powell, is wanted for attempted capital murder in connection to the shooting. Powell is to be considered armed and dangerous. Powell is described as a 19-year-old male, stands 5-feet-8 inches tall and weights approximately 155 pounds.

STORY: A city official tells KRIS 6 News a Corpus Christi Police Officer has been shot in an incident at an apartment complex on the 5900 block of Weber Road.

Police Chief Mike Markle said the officer was shot multiple times inside of the apartment and was rushed to the hospital with what he termed “quite severe injuries.”

The incident took place at Watercolor Apartments formerly known as Marbella Apartments. A suspect is loose in the area of the shooting.

Notes from the scene indicate that crime scene tape has been seen at Building 19 of the apartments. Officers responded there at approximately 2:14 p.m. for a disturbance in progress. While they were there, a man came outside of the apartment and started shooting.

The identity of the wounded policeman has not been released. The officer has been taken to Spohn Shoreline Hospital for treatment.

Police have swarmed the area looking for the shooter of the police officer. Police say the search will continue until they find him.

They have a description of the suspect they will be releasing shortly.

Police say they hope everyone in the surrounding neighborhoods are on the lookout for the suspect.

An unknown patient was seen loaded into an ambulance and driven away from the scene with a police escort.

Corpus Christi ISD police report that Carroll High School as well as Kostoryz Elementary are under a lockout.
