Child porn pictures on Instagram land Amtrak employee in New Orleans jail, authorities say

A 36-year-old man has been arrested in New Orleans on charges of posting sexually explicit images of underage girls on the Instagram online social network, according to court records. Damien Rodriguez, who the records say was an Amtrak employee, was booked with 10 counts of possession of child pornography.

The tip came in September from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and was investigated by the cyber crimes unit of the Louisiana attorney general’s office. Detectives found “approximately 10 images of what appears to be child pornography … prepubescent females posed in sexually explicit positions” linked to an email address at a home in the 2500 block of Gravier Street, police said.

Police said they obtained a search warrant for the Mid-City home and spoke with a woman who identified herself as Rodriguez’s roommate. She told them she hadn’t seen Rodriguez in several days but that she had seen him place a broken portable computer into a garbage can. Police said they found a hard drive that appeared to have been smashed with a hammer, according to the court records.

At a later date, the woman told authorities that she talked on the phone with Rodriguez, that he asked whether police had been by the home and that he threatened to kill himself when she told him of their visit. A warrant for Rodriguez’ arrest was signed Nov. 25, records show, but he was not apprehended until Tuesday morning.

He was booked into the Orleans Parish jail. Bond was not immediately set.
