Ludhiana: Police have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly trying to rape of a 7-year-old girl. The accused, who hailed from a village in Uttar Pradesh, worked at a liquor shop in Ludhiana.
In his complaint, the minor’s father claimed that his daughter, who was playing outside the house, had gone missing around 7 pm on Tuesday. While searching for her, the family members and neighbours scanned the footage of CCTV cameras installed outside a departmental store in the area. In the footage, they saw the accused holding her hand and forcibly taking her towards the railway tracks.
After registering a case under Section 364 (Kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) of the IPC, cops launched a search opeartion.
During investigations, it came out that the accused had taken the girl to his rented room and tried to sexually assault her. As the girl started crying, people from the neighbourhood gathered ouside the room and gave him a sound beating. The man, however, managed to flee the spot and the minor was handed over to her father, police said. Cops were able to track him down with the help of mobile phone location. Sub-inspector Rajwant Singh said the accused was arrested from Upper Bhandal village in Una of Himachal Pradesh in the wee hours on Thursday.
Police said sections related to attempt to rape and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act have been added against in the FIR.
