GALESBURG-Each year hundreds of children enter Knox, Warren, Henderson, McDonough and Fulton Counties’ juvenile court system due to abuse or neglect. CASA of West Central Illinois is looking for volunteers to advocate for these children.
CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates and is a small non-profit agency that trains volunteers to speak up for the best interests of children affected by abuse and neglect in Knox, Warren, Henderson, McDonough, and Fulton Counties’ legal and child welfare system.
CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to make sure these vulnerable children do not get lost in the legal and social service system or languish in an inappropriate group or foster home. Any adult (age 21) who completes the screening requirements and initial training sessions may become an advocate.
The training classes are held quarterly. The next session begins in February.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact their office by phone (309) 343-4299 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
