<p>SHAWANO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - A Shawano County man is being held on a $25,000 bond for a dozen counts related to child abuse.

36-year old Nathan Pogrant faces six counts of false imprisonment, two counts of physical abuse, and causing mental harm to a child. He is accused of repeatedly strapping an 8-year old boy to a chair and leaving him there for hours at a time.

The boy escaped from Pogrant’s basement to a nearby highway, where strangers found him and called the police. The boy reportedly had bruises on his face, arm, back, and legs. He also had marks on his stomach consistent with being tied up. All of those injuries were consistent with the abuse he described to police.

The boy lived with his mother and Pogrant at a home in Eland. His mother admits to knowing about the abuse but has not yet been charged.

According to the criminal complaint, Pogrant refused to speak to the police without a lawyer.
