Lonnie Hayes, 77, was a recently retired Fleet Maintenance Division and James “Beau” Hayes, 42, worked as a correctional assistant. Both were charged with child abuse and neglect after they tried to restrain a child for an extended period of time, according to an LCSO press release.
Beau and Lonnie Hayes were responsible for supervising the child at the time, the press release said. They tried to control the child after they said he was misbehaving, the press release said. Detectives assigned to the investigation later deemed their restraint as excessive.
Lonnie and Beau Hayes have been released from the Levy County Jail on their own recognizance.
