#ChildMolester | 159 paedophiles and perverts locked up this year in Merseyside

This is a list of 159 paedophiles and perverts linked to Merseyside locked up this year for sex crimes.

The list of depravity includes a paedophile who raped a girl at least 60 times, a deputy headteacher who raped a child with her ‘monster’ boyfriend, and another couple who raped a little boy, then offered his mum cash.

Judges dealt with an exploitative paedophile who blackmailed girls into carrying out humiliating abuse, a sex offender who blamed his behaviour on an alter ego called ‘Alex’, and a foul pervert who called himself “Papa Bear”.

They had to sentence a paedophile priest and a predatory ex-vicar; upskirt perverts and voyeurs who secretly recorded their victims; a KFC worker who sexually assaulted a colleague; and a sex predator whose video of him abusing a girl ended up being seen by her mum.

Courts heard details of how deviants collected disturbing images and in one case, even planned to have sex with a 13-year-old girl while her mum watched.

Meanwhile, one dangerous rapist was caught mid-attack thanks to a brave member of the public, who put him in a chokehold and punched him in the face.

Thanks to the courage of victims who reported their abusers and in some instances gave evidence against them in court, and of course the dedicated police officers and Crown Prosecution Service teams whose painstaking work built up cases against perpetrators, these twisted crooks were all locked up.

The dad-of-one tied and gagged his victim, stripped her naked and molested her, then claimed he was “sorry”.

DNA linked him to the attack, near Helsby Road, on September 21, 2020, but Lockley, of no fixed address, denied any involvement.

Their sickening acts were only discovered after they uploaded an image of child abuse, not involving the same boy, to Facebook.

When police raided their St Helens home they discovered the horrific pictures and videos, in which Bradbury would encourage Gamble as he abused the child.

They also found toys, sweets and games they would use to groom the boy.

The following year, Connolly covered the face of a second girl and ran his hand over her, before asking if she “wanted a cuddle”.

Using the username JuicyGamer, he let a 12-year-old boy spend £200 on his credit card and got the child to send a photo of himself in shorts.

Lawton lied that he was 19 to trick the children, aged 14 and 13, into meeting for sex.

Under UK law, while it is illegal to engage in sexual activity with anyone under 16, consensual sex is not considered rape if the child is 13 or older and is instead the offence of sexual activity with a child.

Lawton, of Milton Road, Widnes, pestered the two victims to send him intimate photos and filmed the 14-year-old having sex with him.

The “monster” used the clip to blackmail her into further abuse – including a rape after he held a knife to her throat – when she tried to stop seeing him.

However, when he posted the clip on a Snapchat account called “slags”, not only was it sent to her mum, but he was caught thanks to his distinctive tattoos.

The paedophile thought he was chatting to children when he discussed sex and sent naked pictures of himself online.

In reality both “Bella”, 13, and 12-year-old “Jess” – who he met on Kik Messenger – were undercover police officers.

Police raided the 29-year-old’s home in Belmont Road, Anfield and seized his phone, containing indecent images of children and his collection of “d*** pics”.

The pervert then tried to worm his way out of trouble by claiming his brothers had used the device, but that wasn’t true.

The 55-year-old had called the child “sexy” and said he wanted them to meet in secret.

But he didn’t get to give the girl his gifts because he was instead greeted by police.

A covert officer had pretended to be “Paige” on Chat Avenue in January 2021.

Between January and February Coulthwaite also spoke with 12-year-old “Rebecca”.

Again this was an undercover officer, who Coulthwaite, of Haydock Street, Newton-le-Willows, tried to meet in Preston on February 12.

A judge said Whiteside, of Prescot Road, Old Swan, was an offender of “particular concern” and jailed him for 13 years and nine months, with an extended one year on licence.

Stephen Lewis

Stephen Lewis warned a girl “don’t tell anyone” after sexually abusing her before molesting her friend.

The paedophile carried out vile acts on two young girls and forced one of them to perform sex acts.

After discovering they had both suffered abuse, the two victims wrote to Jackie magazine for advice.

But when one of their parents found out, they accused the girls of lying and the abuse went unreported for decades.

One of the victims spoke out in 2019 and Lewis, of Woodchurch Road, Prenton, admitted six counts of indecent assault and two counts of indecency with a child.

The 48-year-old sent the 16-year-old pictures he had taken from the internet so he could groom her and also posted presents.

The vile pervert would then use software to save videos and pictures the Scottish girl sent him on Snapchat in February 2020.

When police raided his home, they discovered Kaufman kept other child sex abuse images and cartoons of children being raped. One of the disgusting images involved a girl as young as two.

Kaufman, formerly of East Dam Wood Road, Speke, admitted three counts of possessing indecent images of children, possessing extreme porn, attempting to take indecent photographs of a child and making indecent images of a child.

On the Liverpool Echo, we have comments on hundreds of stories each week.

We encourage people to express their opinions respectfully and to engage in debate around the subject matter in line with our community standards.

Those comments are then moderated or replied to by the team in the Echo newsroom.

Why do some stories not have comments?

There are several reasons, but if comments have been taken off stories, in most cases it is down to legal reasons – for instance the story is about an ongoing trial where comments could be in contempt of court.

Sometimes the story is about a criminal investigation which has reached a stage where things people may say could prevent the investigation from continuing.

Stories involving sexual offences or children also often have comments switched off, to prevent anyone involved from being identified.

Beyond that, experience has shown us that the subject of certain stories can attract offensive or extreme comments, so we do not allow them.

And sometimes, if a story has comments enabled to begin with, we have to switch them off if the comments become extreme or offensive, or the people commenting start to attack or insult each other.

Thanks for reading. if you want to ask us any more questions about what the Liverpool Echo does, please email neil.macdonald01@reachplc.com

He also raped Boy B in the bathroom, pouncing after his mum invited the disadvantaged little boy in for tea and cake.

Boy B described how the abuse “destroyed” his life and even landed him in jail, after he stole to buy drugs to block out the horror.

Dad-of-four Merritt was convicted of three counts of a sexual offence, which would now be classed as rape, after a trial.

He was jailed for eight years.

The 65-year-old, of Lockgate West, Windmill Hill, Runcorn, admitted attempting to incite a child aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity and attempting to engage a child in sexual communication.

The charges related to sick conversations he had throughout March, when he pretended to be 55 and sent the supposed girl indecent pictures and videos of himself.

He was jailed for 20 months.

The 29-year-old, of Whitford Road, Birkenhead, originally denied assaulting the victim, who was under 16.

After being released by police, Fitzgerald then went to the victim’s home and shouted through her window.

On another occasion, the paedophile was seen trying to get into her house in the early hours of the morning.

There is help out there for victims of rape and sexual assault and other sexual crimes.

The NHS recommends a range of services and support networks which are gathered on the NHS Choices website.

Merseyside Police have specially trained officers who are experienced in investigating sexual assaults in the most sensitive way.

If you’d like to report online, rather than speaking to an officer by telephone in the first instance, you can use Merseyside Police’s online crime reporting service which is secure and confidential.

If you’d like to talk to someone, the national non-emergency telephone number is staffed 24/7 and can be reached by calling 101.

For emergency calls contact call 999

Information on the services offered locally is gathered on Merseyide Police’s website.

Charities offering advice include RASA Merseyside, rapecrisis and safeline.

He was spotted again later, when the victim’s mum found an empty petrol can outside her front door in Bury.

She believed it had been left as a “warning” by the convicted robber, who had threatened to “burn her house”.

He finally pleaded guilty ahead of a trial to causing a child to engage in sexual activity and witness intimidation.

Fitzgerald was jailed for four years and eight months.

Greater Manchester Police said it was unable to provide his mugshot.

She woke to find him sexually assaulting her, when he brazenly claimed he thought she had consented.

But after he confessed in texts the next day and begged for forgiveness, the victim’s sister and others went to his home.

Monaghan suffered a broken arm, which both his own lawyer and a judge remarked many people would say he “deserved”.

The drink and drug fuelled attack happened at Monaghan’s home in Smollett Street, Bootle, late one night in 2017.

He was jailed for 18 months.

Jones, who also downloaded child sex abuse images, was jailed for five years, with an extended three years on licence, in 2014.

Last December he was sent back to jail for hiding a phone from police, after secretly working as a maintenance man in family homes.

But it then emerged that the 59-year-old had also raped and molested a little girl prior to his arrest in 2013.

That abuse only came to light when the child revealed in May 2020 that she had been living with the trauma for nearly a decade.

But the voyeur also inadvertently filmed himself setting up the covert device on a sink and returning afterwards to collect it.

Peel later claimed that he downloaded the app after being “inspired” by a YouTube video and thinking it would be good for “pranks”.

However, he kept the footage for five or six weeks, until it was “discovered by chance” by his girlfriend who contacted the police.

The 69-year-old was back in court for a trial when he was found guilty of two more sex attacks against an eighth victim.

They related to a 13-year-old boy, who he twice indecently assaulted in the early 1980s, leaving the victim with psychological scars.

When told she lived in Manchester, he replied: “You are now in big trouble, it’s just down the M57.”

But unknown to the Wirral grandad he was actually chatting with an undercover officer posing as the school girl, in September 2019.

The 27-year-old man was kidnapped in Bootle in November 2015 and kept against his will at a house in Simons Croft, Netherton.

Lesiak and Daniel Misiolek, who was jailed for life with a minimum of nine years in 2016, subjected him to physical and sexual assaults.

Around 90 minutes of his ordeal were filmed by Misiolek’s girlfriend, Awna Baszak, before he finally escaped when the gang went out.

The victim was initially attacked at a home in Bootle – days after another one of the gang, Dagmara Szary “appeared to have taken offence” to mobile phone photos she claimed to have seen.

Lesiak, 25, of no fixed address, was found guilty of false imprisonment, assault causing actual bodily harm, rape and causing a man to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent.

But he has repeatedly breached his notification requirements by failing to inform police of his address and last year “disappeared” for several months.

He was eventually found living with a woman and her children in Teesside, after meeting her on a dating app, and not disclosing he was a sex offender.

King, of Grey Road, Walton, was sentenced over that breach last June, but fell to be sentenced for a previous breach, committed in February 2020, when he moved without telling police his new address.

He admitted failing to comply with his notification requirements and was jailed for 12 months.

When she said she was going to the police after his attack, he threatened her and kept her detained for around four hours at a property in Widnes.

After saying he would let her go in exchange for a hug, “the animal” leaned in and spat in her face – but the victim was able to escape.

Broome, who admitted criminal damage, was convicted after a trial of sexual assault. His past convictions include assaults and harassment.

He was locked up for three years, but Cheshire Police have not released Broome’s mugshot.

Shakur Valentino took a teenage woman’s knickers as a “trophy” after trying to rape her.

He put his hand over the 18-year-old victim’s mouth “to silence her protests” as she screamed for help, only for a friend to intervene.

After he was arrested, he was released by police under investigation and just weeks later raped a gran near London’s Piccadilly Circus.

Valentino, 23, from St Helens, was previously jailed for 12 years, with an extended five years on licence, for raping that woman, who was in her 60s, in February 2019.

He was hit with a further five and a half years in jail, with an extended two years, for the attempted rape of his first victim in December 2018, which he admitted ahead of a trial.

Judge Louise Brandon said “a disturbing feature” of both cases was he “took trophies in the form of items as a reminder of your offending”.

After kidnapping and raping the gran in an alleyway he took her leggings and after trying to rape the teenager in St Helens he kept her underwear.

The 51-year-old started chatting to the girl but when it became clear the messages were becoming inappropriate, she drew him in just enough to ensure he incriminated herself.

Warner, of Bedford Road, Birkdale, then panicked – first accusing the girl of lying, then saying it was just a bit of fun, and pleading with her to delete the messages.

The girl showed the messages to her mum, who reported Warner to police.

At first Warner tried to deny everything to officers, claiming it was “bulls***” and he thought he was chatting to the girl’s mum.

But his twisted behaviour and the detail of the supposed prank – too obscene to publish – came to light after Robert’s online persona “Saint” was exposed.

Roberts was hit with a 10-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) in October 2011 for possessing and distributing indecent images of children.

The 37-year-old, of Boardsman Lane, St Helens, admitted breaching the SOPO three times and breaching a past suspended sentence by sending the WhatsApp messages, deleting his browsing history and meeting up with the child.

Dixon, a former Bootle man, is awaiting operations and Recorder Ian Unsworth, QC, told him “it may mean you will never come out”.

The paedophile – who has served six years in prison for raping another boy – denied all the allegations at an earlier trial and re-trial.

After Dixon was released from a previous rape sentence he received in 1997 he re-located and now lives in Brock Gardens, Reading.

Dixon was found guilty of indecency with one boy and indecently assaulting him, and seven counts of indecent assault against the other boy, one of an offence today classed as rape, and two counts of an offence now termed attempted rape.

He indecently assaulted the girl, who had to take off clothes if she lost at cards and was made to dance for him in her underwear.

The 57-year-old, of Station Road, Maghull, smiled and grinned when he appeared for sentencing via video link.

However, Carr stopped smiling when he was jailed for eight years and told he must serve two thirds of the sentence behind bars.

Kitchen, of Strafford Drive, Bootle, denied any wrongdoing and claimed the child was lying in a trial.

But after jurors heard evidence from both him and the boy, they unanimously found Kitchen guilty of six counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual activity in the presence of a child, while acquitting him of one further count of sexual assault.

Judge Garrett Byrne told Kitchen: “I have no doubt the jury’s verdicts were correct.”

But that didn’t deter Cowley, of Shiel Road, Kensington, who was actually talking to undercover police, on August 5 this year.

Cowley told the decoy “I don’t mind first timers as long as it’s a secret” and said it was “better” if the child was a virgin.

The 37-year-old – previously jailed for three years in 2016 for molesting a child at a cemetery – confessed when arrested.

The priest molested two children after letting them smoke cannabis and drink alcohol at Bishop Eton Monastery in Childwall.

The teenagers have since been plagued by anger, shame and “self-hatred”, and one tried to kill himself.

But after one boy’s dad complained to Bishop Eton’s then parish priest, MacCarte was moved to Scotland, rather than reported to the police.

Recorder David Knifton, QC, told him: “The police notified her, to her utter shock and distress, that you had been convicted and sentenced for serious sexual offences upon a child.”

Alan Tyson who raped a sleeping woman claimed he was also asleep at the time.

He claimed he had sexsomnia, a sleep disorder and recognised medical condition, which causes people to engage in sexual activity while asleep.

The dad-of-three argued this meant he could not have the intent required to commit rape, but a jury found him guilty.

His victim didn’t know Tyson but was a friend of another resident at a house in Wirral, where the attack took place in August 2019.

She had been drinking and became unwell and went to sleep on a camp bed in the living room.

Tyson, of Ladyfield, Prenton, was in the room playing video games and she woke to find him putting his hands in her mouth and pinching her nose, so she went upstairs.

He followed her and also tried to get in a bed next to her, despite her protests, and hours later she woke to find him raping her.

Tyson only admitted any sexual contact with her after being confronted with DNA evidence.

He was jailed for seven years.
