A man wanted on felony, child molestation charges in Taney County was arrested overseas.
James Raymond has been living in Manila, Philippines for nearly a year under the alias James Holliday.
Court documents say this crime happened in 2015. James Raymond was officially charged in Taney County in 2016.
“You just can’t run forever. You will eventually be found,” Taney County Prosecutor, William Duston.
Raymond vanished after a warrant for his arrest was issued in Taney County.
“He was served. He came in for a couple of court appearances. At the preliminary hearing he failed to show up,” said Duston.
According to court documents, Raymond is facing two felony charges of first degree child molestation.
Details in the criminal complaint say he touched two girls, ages 4 and 6, inappropriately. He told investigators he was concerned that the girls were being sexually abused. He admitted to touching the children, trying to get them to name their accuser but never had the chance to discuss his concerns with their parents.
The Taney County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office was tipped off to his location and got to work trying to find him.
“Our office contacted the U.S. Department of Justice, International Division. Their wheels started turning at the federal level. They worked with the state department to have conversations with the Philippine government which is where we believed that he was at. They started looking through the information they had for identifiers and they located him,” explained Duston. “Eventually, if there are things that you need to account for you’re going to have to account for them.”
It could be weeks until Raymond is returned to the U.S.
It’s still unclear whether or not Raymond will be facing any federal charges.
