MANTOLOKING – A 46-year-old convicted sex offender from Toms River was taken into custody early Sunday morning following a car crash, after which police found him in body armor with a loaded AR-15 rifle, three high-capacity magazines and a loaded 9mm handgun with hollow-point bullets, police said.
Jeremy W. Barringer was arrested after he was involved in the single-vehicle crash about 3 a.m. in the 1200 block of Route 35, police said in a statement.
There was no immediate word on where Barringer was going or what he was doing with the arsenal.

Barringer was charged with 13 weapons-related offenses, including being a convicted sex offender in possession of a weapon, and for possession of 80, 5.56 hollow-point rounds of ammunition and 59, 9mm hollow-point bullets, police said.
Additional charges are pending, police said.

Mantoloking Patrolman Logan LaRue responded to the crash and was supported by back-up from other law enforcement officers with the Bay Head Police Department, the statement said.
The FBI, the New Jersey Joint Terrorism Task Force Unit and New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office are all involved in the investigation, police said.
Barringer was taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, where he remained Tuesday night.
