MUNCIE, Ind. — Two East Central Indiana men — one from Muncie, the other from Union City — were arrested this week on allegations they had sexually abused children.
John Sturgeon McCain, 54. of the 1400 block of East Willard Street, was taken into custody Wednesday on preliminary charges of child seduction, child solicitation and intimidation.
According to a police report, city police in February began investigating a middle school student’s allegations that McCain had fondled her and tried to kiss her when she was visiting his home.
The girl said McCain also at one point held a knife against the side of her head.
Interviewed on Wednesday, McCain denied remembering the incidents described by his accuser. He continued to be held in the Delaware County jail on Thursday under a $30,000 bond.

In Randolph County, 20-year-old Levi J. Matchett was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly told a Union City police officer that he had engaged in sexual activity with a five-year-old girl.
He was preliminarily charged with child molesting. Randolph County Prosecutor David Daly’s office was granted until Monday to file formal charges in the case.
Matchett — with no prior criminal record — continued to be held in the Randolph County jail in Winchester.
