A registered sex offender was arrested Thursday on suspicion of indecent exposure and sexual battery, police said.
San Rafael police were contacted just before 4 p.m. by a state patrol agent who reported that, according to a GPS monitor, a convicted sex offender under his supervision had entered the San Rafael High School campus, Lt. Lisa Holton said.
The suspect was identified as Willie Jesse Clinton Jones, 41, of San Rafael. Jones, also known by the name Willie Jesse Curry and other aliases, has a lengthy criminal record in Marin, including child harassment, robbery, sexual battery and drug offenses, according to court records.
When officers arrived, Jones was in the Montecito Plaza shopping area. A responding officer was contacted by an employee of a business who alleged that the suspect had exposed himself to her, Holton said.
The officer located Jones, who ran through the high school campus and through the neighborhood, jumping fences. Jones had entered a home on Belle Avenue and was hiding inside a workshop, Holton said.
He was arrested without incident.
Through the investigation, police learned that the suspect allegedly entered the San Rafael High campus and inappropriately touched a female student.
In a school email, San Rafael High Principal Glenn Dennis said the suspect was allegedly harassing the school’s cheer team and offered to help them set up their mats when the incident happened.
“The cheer team refused his help, but he persisted and reached over to a cheerleader, touched her without consent, and ran out of the quad. The interaction was very brief but uncomfortable,” Dennis wrote in the email, noting the student reported the incident to a staff member who then called police. “It is unsettling to have an incident like this occur on a school campus, but I appreciate the quick response of school, staff, coaches and the police department.”
The suspect then went to the shopping center across the street and entered two businesses, where he allegedly exposed himself to female employees and proceeded to masturbate.Jones was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of indecent exposure, sexual battery, annoying a child, resisting arrest and violation of parole.
His bail was set at $50,000, but due to an alleged probation violation, he is on a no-bail hold.
