#childpredator | Action Society calls for sex offender register to be made public after horrific rape of girl (7)

The 7-year-old girl allegedly raped by her 60-year-old stepfather and two male relatives in Kimberly is proof that the National Register for Sex Offenders (NRSO) must be made public urgently.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba the horrifying abuse began in January this year and was discovered only recently.

The young girl was raped and according to the Action Society, a medical examination had indicated that the child has been infected with sexually transmitted diseases.

Three suspects have been arrested.

“The South African Government must make the NRSO available to the public to ensure transparency in our communities and for the safekeeping of our children,” said Action Society spokesperson, Daleen Gouws.

This newfound civil rights organisation launched its “Know your neighbour” campaign during SA’s National Child Protection week earlier this month, urging President Cyril Ramaphosa to publicly release the NRSO as soon as possible

We need to know who the sexual predators are. One assumes that your loved ones are surrounded by people that are ‘safe’, but are they? Do we truly know our neighbours? Are there persons in our close community who are on the NRSO? – Action Society

Action Society calls on the public to sign its petition and request the President to address this distressing issue as soon as possible.

Furthermore Action Society also calls for life sentences for offenders found guilty of sex crimes against children.

“If we can’t know who they are, then they should be in prison for life. We can’t have them in our society.”
