Anthony Salvador Ocasio, 33, of Florida, United States was recently arrested by the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with forcible sexual battery, false imprisonment and aggravated child abuse.
In October 2021, Ocasio met a girl, 15, of Geneva, Alabama, USA on a social media platform and they began communicating. After a month, he allegedly went to her house in Geneva and picked her up.
According to the girl, she and Ocasio traveled to a wooded area location off Leavins Road in Holmes County, Florida where he forced her into the back seat of the car. While brandishing a firearm and threatening to kill her family, he allegedly refused to let her leave and committed sexual battery on her.
After nine hours, Ocasio dropped the girl off at the Highway 2 boat ramp in Holmes County. On November 19, 2021, Holmes County Sheriff’s Office deputies located her at the boat ramp.
Holmes County Sheriff’s Office investigators were able to corroborate the girl’s story through physical and digital evidence on social media. On November 24, 2021, Ocasio was arrested at a mall in Merritt Island, Brevard County, Florida with the help of the U.S. Marshals Task Force.
“Know what apps your children are using,” Holmes County Sheriff John Tate reminded parents. “Don’t be afraid to take their phone, go through it and be proactive about their activity and the people they’re talking to. Being an active participant in your child’s life can make a difference when it comes to them falling prey to predators online.”
Geneva was incorporated in 1875. The city is settled on the junction of the Choctawhatchee River and Pea River.
Every April, Geneva holds the River Festival on the junction of the two rivers. David B. Hayes has been the city’s mayor since October 2020.
