WEXFORD COUNTY, MI – Three juveniles have been arrested on felony charges after an investigation allegedly revealed social media threats, intimidation and “sextortion” toward high school students in Northern Michigan.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Cadillac Post apprehended two local juveniles and one out-of-state juvenile after the in-depth investigation that began in September 2020. The crimes are alleged to have occurred in Haring Township, police said.

The suspects are accused of creating anonymous Instagram accounts and distributing sexually explicit photographs to the victims and others to try and humiliate them, police said.

The Wexford County Prosecutor’s Office conducted a review of the investigation and authorized three count felony petitions for each of the three suspects for distribution of child sexually abusive material, possession of child sexually abusive material, and using a computer to commit a crime.

Troopers are using the case to remind parents to be vigilant in protecting their children from potential online predators and cyberbullying.
