Prior to it, I worked for Glaxosmithkline for 12 years as a research scientist responsible for new drug R&D.

Previous or Current Elected or Appointed Office: None

Why are you seeking elective office?: Twelve years ago we moved here for the best school district in the state. As we have benefited tremendously from the resources and wonderful people from the school district, I believe now is the time to give back to T/E.
I believe that our school board should be balanced with diversified opinions that can better represent our parents and our residents. If elected, I will uphold my duty for responsibility and accountability, always have the best interest of our children in my mind, make sure of parents’ voices to be heard, and work with all the stakeholders to make our district even better.
In addition, as an active leader among the Chinese American community, I would like to see and encourage the community to more actively engage with and make a bigger contribution to the school district.

The single most pressing issue facing our school district is: I believe the single most pressing issue facing our board is to re-open our school fully and safely for the coming year. As a public education system, the quality of the education and mental health of our children should always be the highest priority for the school board’s decisions. While maintaining all the necessary safety measures, we should ensure our children can still receive the highest quality of in-person education they deserve.
If elected, I will commit to finding the best balance between the in-person learning model and health safety prevention based on inputs from parents and students. I will ensure that our children will stay in school to learn and grow as they should.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?: As a first-generation immigrant, I think I have a unique understanding of not only the importance of education but also what has made America strong as a nation. It’s the education that nurtures innovative minds, the culture that values the community, and the society that is based on meritocracy. That’s what sets America apart and makes the American dream possible. I am one of the best living proof of it!
If elected, I will focus on these strengths of our district and further enhance it with more focus on education programs starting from the elementary level, build a solid foundation, optimize curriculum, and better support our student clubs. I will be accountable for how we manage our financial resources with better oversight of administration operations.

Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform: Transparency. School Board Directors should make informed decisions based on the collective input from our community. All decisions made should be transparent without any hidden agenda.
If elected, I will propose that we simplify and shorten board meetings to make it easier for community members to participate and follow. I will propose adding non-voting community representatives to each school board committee, particularly people with expertise to help board members make sound decisions.
I would also recommend that the administration include background information for agenda items that summarizes the inputs and outcomes from the committee level meetings. Such background information is important to provide context for those community members who only join in for the full board meetings.
Covid 19 Impact. It is crucial to fully understand the long-term impact on our children from this unprecedented period of lockdown and virtual learning. Without question, the pandemic has had a huge impact on our children academically, physically, and psychologically. As a parent with a pre-teen child, I am one of the many parents who are deeply concerned about what we should do to mitigate the impact and help our children to recover.
If elected, I will urge the administration to design a comprehensive assessment of our children’s academic performance and mental health and provide adequate resources to support our children through this difficult time. As a community, we have to face this challenge together and use our collective wisdom to address it.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?: When I came to America at age 23, I came with two suitcases and a thousand dollars, with broken English and I knew no one. If I can accomplish all the milestones in my life and career to make me who I am today, there is nothing I can’t accomplish to serve our community.
Having experience as a certified Project Manager, Business Analyst, and Business Development professional, I understand how to cohesively unite the stakeholders with a focus on the issues to resolve and on the objective to achieve. I am a doer, not a talker.

The best advice ever shared with me was: When we see something is bad and broken, go find a tool and fix it. Action matters, not words.

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?: Children are every nation’s future. To educate our children with real knowledge, practical skills, and hard-working ethics is the only way to keep them competitive, successful, and happy in the future. Every kid needs to find their own strength and value in a society, not one cookie-cutter can fit all.
If elected, I will listen to the parents and residents, bring their viewpoints into the decision-making process, provide the best resources for our children, continue T/E’s excellence, and make it even better.
