#childsafety | Deputies ensure pedestrian safety during National Walk To School Day

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Today, October 7, is National Walk To School Day.

Students across the country are encouraged to walk to school with their friends or parents every year on the first Wednesday of October.

Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office were on patrol to ensure that pedestrians in Lee County made it to school safely.

Here are some safe pedestrian tips from Sheriff Carmine Marceno:

– Parents: plan a safe route for your student to walk from home to school.

– Students: don’t take shortcuts! Stick to your parent’s safe route.

– Young students should always walk with an adult.

– Older students should walk with a friend.

– Look both ways when crossing the street and watch for cars at every driveway.
