BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – June is Internet Safety Month.
With technology being used more than ever, experts are warning parents to be on guard.
U.S. Cellular is offering tips for parents to help keep their kids safe.
They say a recent study shows 93% of parents in 2020 monitored their child’s cell phone usage.
That’s up from 81% in 2019.
They say more families are relying on technology to keep their children, learning, entertained and connected to friends.
Now more than ever parents need to be mindful of what protections they can put in place for their children.
”U.S. Cellular has actually created a resource online it’s digitalfamilymatters.com. And on that website we have a parent-child agreement where you can actually lay out all of the things that you expect that your child to do on the Internet, things that they should be going on, shouldn’t be doing. And it just gives you really that accountability piece with your child,” said Dan Godin, U.S. Cellular manager.
Management says resources are also available in Google’s Digital Wellbeing Family Guide.
Advice from experts on popular content online can be found at Common Sense Media and Plugged-In.
Disney’s Circle Plus is a device that can be added to your home router which lets you monitor multiple connected devices, internet usage and even block access to the internet easily.
