The Crookston Eagles will have Bras for a Cause to raise money for the Hope Chest for Breast Cancer Charity. Where contestants decorate, bedazzle or make your own bra and bring it to the Crookston Eagles. Online voting will begin today. Then come up to the Eagles on Friday, October 28 and eat and help raise money for this charity. The bra with the most online votes and money collected in it will win the grand prize. Proceeds go to Hope Chest for Breast Cancer.

There will be no Bar BINGO at the Crookston Eagles today, due to a private event.

The Knights of Columbus Council of Red Lake County’s annual free will offering KC Breakfast will be Sunday, October 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Parish Hall in Red Lake Falls. Proceeds go to community support. The Catholic Daughters will also have a bake sale. The KC Raffle drawings for 13 prizes will also be held. Anyone interested in buying a raffle ticket to help support the cause can contact a KC member or Sara Kenfield at Thibert’s Chevrolet.

Rydell National Wildlife Refuge will host a special Mentored Youth Deer Hunt for kids ages 12-15 in cooperation with the Minnesota DNR and the Friends of Rydell and Glacial Ridge Refuges Association on October 29 and 30. Youth must attend a mandatory orientation session that happens on Sunday, October 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The Crookston Home Delivered Meals will be delivered by the Chapter AXPEO and the United Way Board of Directors on the week of October 24-28.

The Golden Link Senior Center will have a NAPS Food Box Pickup in their Parking Lot on Monday, October 24, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., a Lions Club Meeting and Lunch at noon, and a Sit, Stand, & Dance Class at 2:00 p.m.

The Crookston High School will have its Fall Choral Festival on Monday, October 24, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a concert beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for students.

The Grand Theatre’s 10th Annual Free Movie will be Monday, October 31. The Family Movie will be at 7:00 p.m. and the Scary Movie at 9:30 p.m. There will be Halloween Specials including $2 Icees and popcorn and a Halloween Costume Contest with prizes.

The Crookston Home Delivered Meals will be delivered by the Tri-Valley Opportunity Council on the week of October 31-November 4.

City of Crookston Yard Waste and Branch Collection will be collected from Monday, October 31 to Friday, November 4 on your regular scheduled pick-up day. Branches must be cut in four-foot lengths and bundled. If they aren’t cut to this length and bundled, they will be left for the owner to haul away. Bagged yard waste must not exceed 30 pounds per bag. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall for pickup.

The Crookston High School will have ASVAB Tests on Wednesday, November 2.

Crookston Youth Basketball Association Annual Coach and Parent’s meeting will be Wednesday, November 2, at the Crookston High School commons. Polk County is honoring Veterans Day on the week of November 7-13 by taking part in ‘Operation Green Light’, a new national collaborative initiative to support military veterans by shining green lights at the county buildings’ flag poles. Residents and businesses are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends.

Rick Jensen, author, and woodcarver will be at the Golden Link on Tuesday, November 8, at 10:00 a.m. He will be displaying a mini collection of his woodcarvings and will be talking about his experiences with wood carving.

The Crookston Public Library will host an event featuring the 1996 film, “Iwo Jima: 50 Years of Memories.” A screening of the film will be held followed by a presentation by “Iwo Jima” Filmmaker Dean Henney on Tuesday, November 8 at 6:00 p.m. Henney will share about his experience creating the film, which tells the story of one of the last major battles of World War II told entirely through the voices of American servicemen who survived and were interviewed 60 years after the conflict ended. The event will be held at the Crookston Public Library. No registration is required and the programs will be offered free of charge.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Parish Fellowship committee and Thrivent are sponsoring a free Taco and Movie event on Sunday, November 13, at 4:00 p.m.  Tacos, 4:30 p.m. Movie: American Underdog. It is the inspirational true story of Kurt Warner, NFL MVP, Super Bowl champion, and Hall of Fame quarterback. The Crookston Eagles Club is putting on a Minnesota Wild/Vikings trip to the Wild vs the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, November 19, and the Vikings vs the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, November 20. The price is $400 for members and $425 for non-members, based on double occupancy, and includes bus transportation, hotel, and game tickets. The first 56 paid people will be going. Join the Municipal Clerks and Finance Officers Association of Minnesota in congratulating Ashley Rystad, City Clerk of Crookston on earning the designation of Minnesota Certified Municipal Clerk! An awards luncheon recognizing all individuals who have achieved this designation over the last year will take place at the MCFOA Annual Conference in St. Cloud, from March 22 to the 24.

The Crookston Care & Share is now accepting donations of Women’s, Men’s, and children’s coats and jackets, jeans, sweatshirts, long sleeve t-shirts, and winter gear, as well as toiletries and other common items. Donations may be dropped off at the Care and Share Center at 220 East Third Street.

Second booster doses of Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are now available at Altru Clinic in Crookston for people 50 and older and those 12 and older who are immunocompromised. The second booster dose must be administered at least four months after the first booster. Adults who received Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) for their primary vaccine and booster dose at least four months ago may now receive a second booster dose of Pfizer or Moderna only.
