A 1-year-old boy abducted Tuesday evening from his mother has been safely recovered and the man suspected of kidnapping him has been arrested, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

The man, identified by deputies as 50-year-old William Hannah, of Hatfield Court on Columbus’ Southeast Side, has been charged with felonious assault after assaulting the child’s mother, who was his girlfriend, and shooting at her house in Madison Township in southeastern Franklin County. Additional charges are likely.

The kidnapped boy, Soul Minnehan, appears to be unharmed but will be medically evaluated, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies say Hanna was taken into custody without incident at 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Labrador Lane and Retriever Road on Columbus’ Southwest Side.

The arrest came about four hours after the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office issued an Amber Alert after Hannah was suspected of abducting the child and driving away in her 2003 black GMC Denali, deputies say.

Prior to the abduction, Hannah is suspected of firing multiple gunshots around 5 p.m. outside and inside of the woman’s home in the 3100 block of Hatfield Court near Noe Bixby Road. The female victim called 911 at 5:14 p.m. believing she had been shot, but sheriff’s deputies who responded to the home discovered that she had been pistol-whipped in the head, said Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Jim Gilbert.

That woman was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Gilbert said.

No one was struck by gunfire, and investigators have recovered several shell casings, Gilbert said.

Hannah is described as a white male who is 5’7, weighting 160 pounds. Police say he is wanted for domestic violence, felonious assault and kidnapping.

Anyone with information can call 1-877-AMBER-OH (1-877-262-3764) or 911.

The abduction comes two weeks after a car was taken with an infant inside from the Near East Side. The baby was found a few hours later.
