Miguel Angel Pineda, 25, of Huntington Beach was charged earlier this month with nine felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a child involving three children who were 7 or 8 years old who he met while working with the Boys & Girls Club, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Pineda previously pleaded guilty to molesting another student he met through the same program at a different school during the same general time period. He was sentenced to a year in jail.
Prosecutors say that following that conviction, three additional girls came forward, leading Santa Ana police to take Pineda into custody on March 23. He was being held on $1 million dollar bail.
Prosecutors accuse Pineda of meeting the three new accusers while reading to them at Washington Elementary School in Santa Ana in 2017 and 2018 for the Boys & Girls Club Literacy Program.
“Children are the most vulnerable of victims,” Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in a statement. “They trust without question, because they have no reason not to trust. But that trust can be manipulated by predators who use it to select and prey on the most innocent of victims.
“And now these children must live the rest of their lives with the fear that someone who should have been there to help them instead robbed them of their innocence,” he said.
Police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact Santa Ana police Detective Nick Vega at 714-245-8368 or at email@example.com; or anonymous tips can be made to Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
