Willet, N.Y. — A Cortland County man was arrested twice in the last week after he was accused of sexually abusing a child multiple times over a three-year period, deputies said.
Eric B. Worsell, 52, of Willet, was first arrested Sunday after deputies were alerted to allegations of sexual abuse between 2019 to 2022 at an undisclosed location in Willet, according to a news release issued by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.
An investigation revealed that Worsell had subjected the child to inappropriate sexual contact on several occasions during those years, deputies said. The child and Worsell knew each other, they said.
Worsell was initially charged with forcible touching, second-degree rape and second-degree criminal sexual act, according to the release.
He was held at the Cortland County Jail on a $4,000 cash bail or $8,000 bond.
At the time of Worsell’s arraignment the incident was still under investigation and additional charges were pending, deputies said.
On Friday, Worsell was arrested again for the additional charges of endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree rape and third-degree criminal sexual act, according to the release. The new charges are related to the sexual abuse of the same child, deputies said.
Worsell was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Willet Court on Thursday.
