Lockable mobile phone pouches are the essential item that Madonna insists fans use at her concerts and their use has swept across Broadway and other big ticket events.

A school in Bedfordshire is one of the first in the UK to use the same technology to keep phones out of the classroom and teachers say the change has had a dramatic impact.

Andrew McBurnie took over Manshead Academy three years ago. The school it replaced was judged inadequate and closed down. The new academy opened in 2017 but had three interim heads in its first year.

Pupils used phones to video unsuspecting teachers, record pre-arranged fights, cyberbully each other and, if they were upset, to ring parents who would then turn up at school. Children
