BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (WTVG) Sending mean messages or threats. Spreading rumors online or through texts. Sexting or taking unflattering photos of a person and spreading it via text or online

These are all forms of cyber bullying.
“Its important to have an ongoing conversation with the kids what are the expectations …what apps …what websites …are appropriate to use how much time will you be allowed to spend on social media and review privacy settings with your kids,” Eric Dubow, a professor in the psychology department of Bowling Green State University said.
Extra curricular activities, like clubs and sports can protect some kids from the pitfalls of social media.
And it’s important for kids to know how to be active bystanders – not joining in, supporting the target of the bullying and reporting the incident to an adult.
