Daycare teacher faces assault charges after police say she slammed 3-year-old boy’s head on table

A Prince George’s county daycare teacher is charged with child abuse and assault after police say she slammed a 3-year-old boy’s head onto a table at a Prince George’s County daycare center.

Police say 25-year-old D’Aira Nichel Thompson slammed a child’s head on a table causing a concussion. A court affidavit says Thompson admitted to the assault – which police say was caught on camera.

Charging documents say the incident happened Tuesday morning at the Antioch Child Care Center in Upper Marlboro. Officers say the 3-year-old suffered a contusion to the right side of his head as a result of the incident. Police say the daycare center was alerted to the incident by another parent who said she heard Thompson tell the student to lay his head on the table before she allegedly slammed it down. The father of the child is a Prince George’s county police officer.

After the assault was reported police say Thompson was asked to come to the child abuse unit where she waived her Miranda rights and admitted the abuse.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this case to call the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Child and Vulnerable Adult Unit at 301-772-4930.
