Deadly child abuse case heads to grand jury Deadly child abuse case heads to grand jury

The murder case against a Menifee County woman and her boyfriend has been sent to the grand jury.

In Tuesday’s preliminary hearing, a deputy with the Menifee County sheriff’s department said Robert Collins and Laura Blanton are both responsible for Aria Blanton’s death.

The 20-month-old died from injuries sustained from abuse.

Officials say Collins had been taking care of the toddler days before her death and is responsible. Laura Blanton admitted she noticed bruising before Aria’s death but did nothing about it.

Blanton had her charge changed to complicity to murder, while Collins is still charged with murder.

The couple will be back in court on May 25.
