The RTE star has two children, Dafne and Archie, with husband and two-time Olympian Peter O’Leary.
Derval had wanted to make a phone call — but there was some disruption from her little one, Archie.
Derval shared the mayhem on her Instagram Story, telling followers that while she ‘adores’ Archie he can be ‘full on’.
Posting a video with a ‘The struggle is real’ gif, Derval said: ‘I’m at home this morning with Arch, and I’ve been trying to make a phone call to make an appointment for just less than two hours.
‘And every time I try and make it he either throws something, smashes something or just starts shouting at me and I can’t.
‘I adore him obviously but like, full on. He’s just about to push that [toy truck] over now.
‘He’s also completely soaking because I let him go outside for 30 seconds and immediately he just soaked himself from head to toe.
‘He tried to jump off a wall last time I tried to make my phone call.’
‘Moral of the story, trying to make a call with a feisty two-year-old. NOT HAPPENING,’ the Ireland’s Fittest Family coach added.
Derval returned to Instagram while heading to work and compared being a parent to struggling to swim.
She explained: ‘I feel sometimes as a parent it’s like you’re in a pool and struggling to swim and people just float by on lilos sipping cocktails maybe a cigar in the other hand and you’re just there like, “Ahhhhh!”
‘Does that make any sense to anyone? Have I lost the plot?
‘Now I’m going to listen to a bit of gangster rap whilst walking to the office and remember I’m a badass and Archie can’t defeat me.
‘And to that person who’s messaged me saying, “Bet you athletics was easier” — yeah it was way easier!
‘Athletics was bloody luxurious… kid life my friends.’
