Doctors in the U.S., Britain, France, Canada and Spain are putting out warnings about pediatric patients presenting a syndrome that shares many of the symptoms of Kawasaki disease, which causes inflammation, fevers, rashes and damage to blood vessels, including those supplying blood to the heart.

Some experts are speculating the illness might be related to COVID-19, but infectious disease experts say more research is needed to prove that connection.

Here & Now’s Tonya Mosley speaks with Dr. Sunil Sood, chair of pediatrics at Northwell Health’s Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, N.Y., who has treated more than a dozen patients with the syndrome.
