An Elkhart man has been arrested on child pornography charges after an investigation by state authorities and Fishers police.
Jose Carmen Garcia Jr., 25, is charged with two counts of child exploitation as a Class C felony and two counts of possession of child pornography as a Class D felony.
An undercover investigation by detectives working with the national Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force led police to Garcia’s computer. Court records show the investigation began in October 2012.
Police were investigating a file-sharing network and identified a computer with 37 files of interest, including two videos an officer was able to download from the computer. Both showed pornography involving young girls, according to court records.
Garcia was identified as the owner of this computer. Detectives working with ICAC interviewed Garcia Sept. 29, 2014, at his home.
He told police he was familiar with the file-sharing network and had downloaded files from it, then signed a consent form allowing the detectives to search his laptop. Garcia also told detectives they might find some child pornography on the laptop that he accidentally downloaded.
Court records show there were multiple child pornography videos on the laptop. Detectives seized the computer and submitted it for a full examination.
