SALINAS, Calif. —
A former Salinas teacher was arrested in Arizona and accused of having sex with a student at Catalina Foothills High School.
Charles Schubert, 45, was arrested by Pima County Sheriff’s deputies after a student tipped off school resource officers that the teacher may be having an inappropriate relationship with a classmate.
“Crimes against children detectives responded and took over the investigation after speaking with witnesses and gathering evidence detectives determined Mr. Schubert had been engaged in an ongoing sexual relationship with a student at the school,” said Cody Gress, a spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff.
Shubert has been charged with two felony counts of sex with a minor and one count of luring a minor for sex. He immediately resigned from his teaching position at Catalina Foothills High School.
Up until about 2012, Schubert taught biology at Everett Alvarez high school in Salinas.
Schubert, who lives outside Tucscon, is currently out of custody. He is scheduled to go on trial July 25.
