Expo to offer ideas for keeping kids busy this summer

Parents from Reading, Pottstown and surrounding areas are invited to bring their kids to the third annual Kids and Community Expo on Saturday.

The free event – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 1312 Old Swede Road, Douglassville – will feature more than 50 vendors, including birthday party specialists and direct sales representatives. There also will be information about summer arts and athletic programs for children.

Jennifer Shelgren, 38, of Union Township is the coordinator.

“You can always put your kids in soccer, but there’s so many amazing things out there for our kids to do that we just don’t know about as parents,” Shelgren said.

The expo, sponsored by the Moms Club of Douglassville and St. Paul’s UCC, is about connecting parents with resources to give their children a safe, fun and educational summer.

It will include a child care corner, with local babysitters to watch the kids; and babysitters’ contact information will be available for parents looking to hire such help over the summer. There also will be a bake sale, pony rides, a bounce house, balloon animals and face painting.

If it rains, the event will be moved inside the church gymnasium.

All proceeds from the bake sale and vendor fees will be split between the Just Keep Swimming Relay for Life Team and St. Paul’s youth ministry anti-bullying campaign.
